Realizing his battle was a losing one, the lone Shreveport City Council Member who sought to repeal the new fairness measure withdrew his opposition today, allowing the Fairness Ordinance to remain intact.
The city’s Fairness Ordinance protecting Shreveporters from discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations – including discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression – was upheld when the motion to repeal was removed from the agenda at the request of Council Member Webb.
The measure had bipartisan support and was co-sponsored by council members Jeff Everson (D) and Oliver Jenkins (R) as well as strongly supported by chambers of commerce. The council’s actions today were heard beyond their city, throughout the state and across the country.
